In the darkest hours of 2020 when I was worried about totalitarianism taking over the U.S., I created a brief video I called, "Christ will get us through" to remind me who was in control of this world...and the next.
I forgot about it but found it today on my computer while watching the coverage of Donald J. Trump's inauguration.
"God works in strange ways!" as my dear departed mother Phyllis Mary Watson Curley would often say.
Indeed, Christ got us through this nightmare of the past 4 years and I am so grateful to Him.
In my wife’s wisdom, she realized how communist Maryland was, especially with their embrace of the “mandate” lockdown. She said we needed to move to a 2nd Amendment state, West Virginia, where she grew up on an orchard that was still free to be nearer to her family and our son to survive whatever was coming.
When I came home from work and the mayor who I had a 12 year relationship with, had written his speeches and created his emergency operations plan, had placed police tape around the children’s playground. When I informed him that children needed sunshine, exercise, play, and an innocent life to survive the “mandate” he said that is what the governor of Maryland wanted yelled at me. Then he hung up on me.
In 2021, as my wife and I watched the dramatic increase in political corruption and serious crime in Maryland and the subsequent decline in criminal prosecutions and imprisonment, we had a serious discussion about whether we wanted to remain in Maryland where we lived for 38 years and raised our children.
We sold out house and moved nearby to a farmhouse for a year to search out a new home. The parish where we lived that year, St. Peter the Apostle in Libertytown, MD, is featured in the video above.
If you wish to move from a high crime area to a safer rural area. here is my Substack Civil Defense Criteria to Consider when Moving from Cities to Rural Areas and explore the beauty of living in a safe rural area.
