A Brilliant Defense of Populism
When a young boy at Holy Angeles Grade School in West Oak Lane, Philadelphia, the St. Joseph nuns taught us that the Catholic Church was built on the blood shed by the hundreds of thousands of Christian martyr’s, most of whom were unknown to history.
Communists have never learned this lesson. Instead of being martyr’s, communists kill Christians and create martyr’s.
Before they can kill Christians, communists have to create the conditions.
How else explain their attempt to cancel humans by getting them removed from all social media, contacting banks and ending their ability to write a check to pay their mortgage or buy food to feed their families, getting them fired from their jobs and preventing them from getting another job to support their families, and using their information dominance to use the metaverse to drive “misinformation, disinformation, and malinformation” lies in unrestricted warfare to get them to hate and destroy themselves?
They do not understand that Christ is King, love is real, mothers and fathers will always protect their children, grandparents will have their backs, families will always exist, and the human being is a Temple of the Holy Spirit exercising in real time the Virtues (faith, hope, charity, wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord).
In the end, he communist hate will always fail as it has for over 160 years now because it’s main advocate and his minions were defeated 2,000 years ago at Calvary. Winston Marshall is an example of this truth.
Some Background on What led to the Marshall Oxford Populism Speech
Winston Marshall, for 14 years, was the guitarist and banjoist of the band Mumford & Sons. He wrote on the old Twitter in 2021 that he enjoyed reading and admired the bravery of Andy Ngo’s book Unmasked: Inside Antifa’s Radical Plan to Destroy Democracy.
For his journalism reporting on the extreme violence and goals of Antifa, Andy Ngo has been beaten so severely by the Antifa radicals he has had to be hospitalized to recover from their assaults.
Marshall faced backlash after he praised Andy Ngo’s book. In a now-deleted tweet, Marshall called Ngo a "brave man" for his book. This tweet sparked a communist attack swarm mob against Marshall on Twitter and other social media sites that threatened and attempted to deperson him.
He made the mistake of publicly apologizing for the post. It only emboldens the communists who then move on to their next target. When asked why he apologized, Marshall said he was raised to apologize if he offended someone as a matter of manners. Fair enough. But wrong because commies never change their violent or vicious behavior due to an apology.
Marshall announced his departure from the band to avoid "self-censorship" and to enable him to speak freely on various issues without bringing negative attention to his bandmates. He expressed regret for the distress his actions caused to his bandmates and their families.

The antifa movement traces its heritage to radical left groups that resisted dictators such as Mussolini and Hitler in Europe in the 1930s. In Germany, the communist-aligned Antifaschistische Aktion fought street battles with Hitler’s followers until it was forcibly disbanded in 1933.
This tradition was revived in Europe during the 1980s and 1990s, with the rise of Nazi skinheads and other far right groups. It arrived in the U.S. in the late 1980s, with the creation of Anti Racist Action (ARA) in Minneapolis.
Antifa, which teaches anarchist politics, have a distinctive repertoire of tactics ranging from publicly doxing traditional American Constitutionalists, to physically attacking them in the streets. In street riots, they dress in “black bloc” attire including balaclavas or masks to conceal their identity. Among other horrors, they are famous for attacking police officers and the Portland Federal Courthouse.
Martyrdom Persecution Leads to Strength of Character and Moral Behavior
As Lions of the Faith details, Christian martyrs, as the persecution increased, only became stronger. Their beatings, tortures, and deaths rather than preventing the spread of Christianity, only spread it.
This phenomenon is a reality that is now apparent in the decline of the cancel culture. Enough time has now passed from the beginning of the communist assault of American and Western free thought via cancel culture and those who have not only survived, but triumphed, over their attempted “cancellation.” (As if a human, made in the image and likeness of God, could be cancelled.)
Robert Frost, when asked to explain a poem by a professor after a reading, said “What would you have me do? Explain it in other and less good words?”
I will follow Robert Frost’s wisdom and avoid commenting on the historic May 8th, 2024 speech by Winston Marshall at the Oxford Union arguing that populism is not a threat to democracy, but rather is democracy itself.
