Nice collection.

Most of the time, a bullet might be worth more than all the gold and reserves in the world, but that's common knowledge. Houses and backyard bunkers will be death traps.

A large enough self-sustaining community can make it, if it has enough people to protect it, but it can happen only among people who share the same ideological stance (a religion, that is, because philosophy doesn't cut it most of the time). Once his children are starving, my good next-door neighbor will kill me for a can of soup.

I cannot be safe without owning a self-sustaining island in a pristine area of the world (is there one?), and I am not going to own one anytime soon. :)

However, prepping is not totally useless, because if one can make it long enough, the crisis will be over (probably about five years after it starts):

Good article and ideas. A balanced approach is always the best. Fear is bad but situational awareness is good. Prepare for the worst and pray for the best. This is also a spiritual battle.
