If I remember correctly, Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., having survived the firebombing of Dresden, Germany in World War Two knew something about history and warfare. His most succinct line about it is the History chapter in Breakfast of Champions when you turn the Chapter page named “History” says “Read it and weep.”
